Episode 227 of The Independent Characters has Carl and Josh attending an incredible event for Adeptus Titanicus. In this episode we will discuss what the Burning of Califax event by the Gothamos Gaming Group (or G3 for short) entailed, what our experience there was, and what it takes to run an event like this.

Bear with our audio quality in the final part of the show as we piped in our guest and they didn't have a direct microphone. But we think you will find the information they provide to be useful and entertaining. If you haven't seen pictures of this event on our Facebook Group, Discord, or even posted in the Adeptus Titanicus section of Reddit, you can see them presented on YouTube as we wind our way through the episode.

Episode 221 of The Independent Characters takes a look at some of our favorite models across the line of Games Workshop support for the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

It isn't easy picking a favorite anything as we find out. It's like trying to decide what your favorite song is, or favorite movie. Sure it sounds simple at first, but then if you are forced to ruthlessly prioritize your choices, that's where it becomes really difficult.

The models that represent the Warhammer 40,000 universe are as diverse as they are lovely. We try to narrow down our favorite models in this discussion and spend some time explaining why our biased opinion is the right one.

It was meant to be a light hearted take on some of the best aspects of the game, but it turned into a demanding breakdown to pick our favorite representative models. That being said, we had a great time recording this episode, and we hope you enjoy it half as much as we did bringing it to you!

Episode 219 of The Independent Characters takes a unique look at 10th Edition and Leviathan. Warhammer 40k 10th Edition is here and so is Leviathan, the latest huge starter box from Games Workshop.

Everyone knows this though. So why cover it? Well with something like this you kind of have to discuss the elephant (or new edition in this case) in the room. However, we decide to approach things a little different here at The Independent Characters.

We have brought in Skye Herrick of Herrick Games and Hobbies to talk about what going through a release like this does to an Independent Retailer as well as what may have lead up to it.

Rather than go into an overview discussion of the rules and how they have changed, we delve into two exciting ways to play that we are interested in. Combat Patrol and Crusade!

Episode 212 of The Independent Characters is, as you know, incredibly late. We talk about that in the episode. Nothing to worry about folks, just general life and scheduling getting in the way. But the important thing is that it is now here! And boy is it! We have a show that clocks in at over three hours of content for you as we tackle the Adeptus Custodes in our Show of Force: Talons of The Emperor episode!

I want to thank Jody and Justin for joining us this episode. Their commitment to the show should not go unmentioned. We really hope you enjoy this episode and we are working to get back on some semblance of a schedule for you.

One last thing - during the show we misspeak about the "Sworn Guardians" rule for Adeptus Custodes. In the show we state that a unit with this ability controls an objective even if outnumbered. However, what we didn't read was the second part of the rule which states that if a unit has a similar rule (Objective Secured really), then "the objective marker is controlled by the player who has the most models within range of it as normal." Sorry for any confusion we may have caused!

Episode 208 of The Independent Characters returns to one of our favorite series... the last time we did this was January of 2019.

In the 41st Millennium there are those who stand out among all others. Shining beacons of light or blackened embers of darkness. In this new series entitled ‘Champions of 40k’, The Independent Characters take an in depth view of several of their favorite heroes in the game.

In this episode we return to explore the lore around each of them and what makes them qualified to be counted among the greatest of their kind. And in true ICs fashion, we go deeper. We look at how their model represents them, how they function on the table as well as how they compare to their fiction!

This round sees us return to explore several ‘Heroes of The Imperium’. We will pick our favorites and dive into how they have helped to turn back the tide of Chaos and Xenos alike.

Although it turned out Jody could not join us for this episode, we do have Justin and Adan on board. We hope you enjoy our return to this series as much as we are excited to bring it to you!

Episode 206 of The Independent Characters takes a look at how the hobby is getting older, what the drawbacks and benefits to that are, what we as a community can do to bring new life to it, and how Games Workshop may be approaching an aging player base.

A couple of notes however: We obviously had to record remotely, which isn't ever my first choice, but we made the best of it. Once the Shelter In Place orders are lifted, we will go back to recording in the studio while observing safety precautions.

I really want to thank our Special Guest - Dave Taylor for joining us in a lengthy discussion on this topic. We meant no offence inviting him to join us on the "old guys episode"!

Also do NOT forget you can use the coupon "ICMay2020" with your Tablewar purchases of FatMats, MacroMats, and GeoMats all throughout the month of May for an additional 10% off your purchase! These guys have been incredibly generous to the community over the years and as small businesses are hurting right now, go over there, take advantage of the coupon code and order something for yourself or a friend if you can do so!

Episode 204 of The Independent Characters is as late as we have ever been with a show. The current situation around the world has impacted us here as well (as you will hear on the show), but we finally were able to work out a time to record.

A couple of notes however: We obviously had to record remotely, which isn't ever my first choice, but we made the best of it. Additionally, we had to pivot away from our initial topic to a Warrior Lodge for this go around. Without the ability to be with each other in person, we miss out on some of the sharing factor of the previous topic. That's ok though, we will bring it back when things return to a stable state.

That being said, I think we have some solid discussion here with Carl, Jody, Justin, and Josh (The three Js!). We hope you enjoy the show and we fully expect to be back on schedule soon, and in fact we have some new ideas we think you are going to enjoy.

Additionally, we couldn't address this topic without pulling in a couple of experts. Namely Dan and Campbell from the 40k Badcast. They join us for a thirty minute interview about why Necromunda Campaigns are so exciting.

As Josh, our Specialist Games correspondent is still out sick, we felt we couldn't delay any longer. So we bring you a bit different episode of The Independent Characters. Jody and Carl pivot to discuss The Challenge from Episode 202 and discuss the lore behind each of their creations and how they would interpret their play on the Tabletop.

It's a bit short for an episode of The Independent Characters - but still comes in at about an hour and a half of fun discussion. Our intention is to get Episode 203 out hopefully before Adepticon.

It's a fun episode, and we hope you enjoy it!

We have a discussion with the Narrative Guys, and then go into how you can get into Narrative Gaming, how to develop ideas, and finally we let our imaginations run a little wild with ideas for taking these things to the next level.

We have finally reached our 200th episode (although somewhat late), and that means it is time to take stock of where we came from, what has changed, and where we are going.

We have spent nearly 10 years (April will be 10!) looking at this hobby and at times have planted our stake in the ground and made either predictions, or taken stances. We will see how many of those have held up over the years.

Where appropriate, we will provide some updates on some things that have changed.

We will also discuss some of our favorite episodes and why they are still relevant.

Additionally, we will take a look at where we are going from here.

Episode 199 of The Independent Characters is our year in review episode. Now we talked about this before, but with so many shows out there going over everything that released last year, we felt like a change was in order. We were the first show to take that route and quite honestly we were feeling like it was a bit stale anyway. This year we do something different. We speak with most of the members of our gaming group, local friends, and others to get their insight on what were the highlights, lowlights, and thoughts on plans for the future of Games Workshop.

Probably our longest, and last episode of the year - this one clocks in at around four whopping hours!

So sit back and get some hobby progress done while we fill your ears with our final thoughts of 2019.

Happy New Year to all! May it be better for you than the last year, and may all your hobby dreams (as well as others we suppose) come true!

Episode 197 of The Independent Characters present you with a new Show of Force episode! This time we double stack it and take a look at both the Imperial and Chaos Knights in an episode we like to call Show of Force: Engines of Faith and Ruin.

We're sorry, but we thought you said you LIKED long episodes... so this one clocks in at nearly four hours in length! Not only that, we have the return (some would say long overdue) of Justin to the show.

After all of that great content, we have an interview with Kat and Caleb of CK Studios, talking about their experience teaching airbrushing at Warhammer World and what they have coming up for 2020.

Episode 194 of The Independent Characters is a bit of a train wreck. We aren't going to lie.

When Carl was going to be doing so much traveling in September, we expected that he would be able to fit in a couple of interviews. Justin Hill, Aaron Dembski-Bowden, John French, maybe even Robin Cruddace. However, delayed flights, jetlag, expired Drivers licenses... all kinds of things conspired against him to toss those plans right out the window.

In the end we wound up with a great interview (with mediocre sound quality in Bugman's Bar) with Justin Hill and then an extensive Hobby Progress and rambling intro section with Jody and Carl. This is NOT our strongest showing, but we do think it IS a fun episode. It's just not particularly well structured.

Our next episode will have us back on track and back on schedule. No more traveling and just a lot of gaming. But until then we hope this episode tides you over and you enjoy it as much as we did recording it!

Episode 193 of The Independent Characters arrives delayed by about two days since Carl had to deal with majore work issues all weekend.

This episode we are discussing how to get some extra life out of all of your old hobby publications. Be they old campaign materials, old codexes, old mission books, or just old anything - we discuss ideas for how you can look at these things at the changing of an edition and still make them useful in your gaming experience!

This episode again comes in at about two and a half hours. We know folks like the longer ones and we have some things coming up which are going to fill your time at great length. But this is a solid two hours of content and discussion... and it will also be of value to how long you get to use all that old stuff you bought.

Carl and Justin are heading off to the NOVA Open after this and the month of September is incredibly busy with travel and other activities, but we will fit in new episodes where we can. Expect a lot of interviews with people in the industry and some other surprises coming up. We hope you enjoy!

Episode 191 of The Independent Characters has us doing a deep dive into the ideas, fiction, fact, and fantasy that spawned the lore of Warhammer 40,000. If you hate long episodes, this one might not be for you as it is over 4 hours of content. But that's what the timestamps below are for!

We include our usual Hobby Progress section and then we leap into an interview with none other than Miniwargaming Dave (or Chaos Dave as some call him!). We discuss some exciting things he has done lately and the new Mini Wargaming Bunker you can visit!

Then we leap into the main topic of the show for about an hour and a half of solid conversation.

This is followed up by an interview with Kat and Caleb from CK Studios where we discuss the entry for the NOVA Open Charity Foundation. An amazing Warlord Titan assembled and painted by some of the best in the industry. Find out how it can be yours!

Episode 190 of The Independent Characters has a return to our Show of Force series - and this time it's all about The Insidious Curse... We take a deep dive into the horror that is The Genestealer Cults!

To help us out with this, we have brought in our resident Genestealer Cult player, new guest host, new member to our gaming group, AND new 40k Player (since January!), Matt Bruner! He is a long time friend of Jodys and we think you will love him as much as we do! We kick off the show getting to know Matt, then launch into a lengthy hobby progress and games played section with Jody talking a little bit about his experience at the Boise GT. You can hear even more about that on the Splintermind Podcast (link below).

Then it's time to launch into our coverage of The Genestealer Cults. What an amazing army this is! While the concept isn't new, the army IS, and you will hear all about it here.

Finally we have a short interview with Facebook Group fan-favorite Jeremy Wood. If you aren't a member of the group, you are really missing out on some incredibly work Jeremy does with his dioramas.

And to help Josh and I convince him we brought out the big guns! Specifically, we invited game designer James Hewitt for an interview. Episode 183 of The Independent Characters contains a massive four and a half hours of content for you.

Now we wouldn't normally put out an episode this long, but with the loss of the Astronomicon computer, and the replacement, and scheduling... it had been over a month since we recorded. So you try to think of it as two episodes that are each two hours and twenty minutes long.

If that wasn't excitement enough for you - this episode is all about The Death Guard! It's our Show of Force: Heralds of Decay! We go into great depth about the army and the impact it has had on the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Not only that - we have an interview with Black Library author, Chris Wraight about his novel "Lords of Silence" and the outlook of the Death Guard in general!

Then, just when you think the torture is done, we have a great interview with Mike and Emma Basc! Two of the Warhammer Heroes Awards winners. We discuss what they have done to help revitalize the 40k scene in Perth Australia, their Objective Secured Podcast, and a bit about events they are running in the Perth area!

Our next episode should be coming out just before Adepticon. We promise to try to make it on time this go around. But until then - we hope this keeps you busy!

Episode 182 of The Independent Characters brings you a new series we are launching…

In the 41st Millennium there are those who stand out among all others. Shining beacons of light or blackened embers of darkness. In this new series entitled ‘Champions of 40k’, The Independent Characters take an in depth view of several of their favorite heroes in the game.

In this episode we explore the lore around each of them and what makes them qualified to be counted among the greatest of their kind. And in true ICs fashion, we go deeper. We look at how their model represents them, how they function on the table as well as how they compare to their fiction!

This first episode will explore several ‘Heroes of The Imperium’. We will pick our favorites and dive into how they have helped to turn back the tide of Chaos and Xenos alike.

After all of that, we have an interview with Teras of Geek Nation Tours, who describes some amazing new tours they have set up for the miniature gamer, role-playing gamer, and general geek enthusiast!

Stick with us as it’s a great episode. We hope you enjoy this new series as much as we are excited to bring it to you!

Episode 181 of The Independent Characters brings you our 2018 wrap-up episode.

Let me just first say that if you do not like our Hobby Progress segments, we apologize, because this one is extra long, coming in at nearly an hour and a half as we talk about our 2018 commitments, where we succeeded or failed, and then make new ones for 2019. There is also quite a bit that was accomplished over the holiday break by everyone and we go into detail about all those... including a few tangents here and there.

Then we launch into the 2018 Warhammer 40k review! We go over every release from Games Workshop, Black Library, and Forge World, with a sprinkling of 3rd party releases thrown in here and there. We love these episodes because it really boils down to our opinions on a lot of things here.

We hope you enjoy the episode as well!

PS - Yes we also realize that at the very end we forgot to mention the Primaris version of Marneus, his guards and the new Black Legion Commander...

We were lucky enough to have three very special guests. Jason Mullins from the Sons of Heresy Podcast, Adam Fasoldt (Loopy) from the Masters of The Forge Podcast, and Robo Ed from Life After the Cover save!

Since Carl had all three of these individuals at his house, he felt it would be a travesty not to record an episode with them! So here you go.

This episode we are discussing the "Pillars" of the Warhammer 40k Hobby. These are the components that, in our mind, make up the hobby as Games Workshop sees it. It's an episode full of opinions and deeper thoughts. We hope you enjoy!

Episode 174 of The Independent Characters compares two of Games Workshops skirmish game offerings. It's Necromunda vs Kill Team!

A lot of discussion has revolved around whether or not Games Workshop has made the right decision in releasing another skirmish game. Is there enough room for both of these games in the 40k Universe? We discuss the ins and outs of both of these games, their systems, and how they are released and give you our final opinions on what GW has done right, and wrong.

Carl is joined again by Jody and Austin as guest hosts as we take a deep dive beneath the hive cities of Necromunda and wage war across the tight confines of Kill Team.

Episode 173 of The Independent Characters introduce a new guest host, Austin! Carl met Austin at Adepticon just before he moved to the area and has already become a fantastic member of our gaming group. So after we introduce you to Austin, we have Jody and Josh join as well for a long Warrior Lodge episode.

For those who don’t already know, The Warrior Lodge is a moderated discussion around several topics. We get various opinions and thoughts on things related to Games Workshop, Warhammer 40k, and the community in general.

This episode was recorded on several different days so I apologize now for some of the disjointed feel of each segment. In a couple of places I reference segments that come later - however, they actually came PRIOR to me mentioning them on the show. Either way… deal with it! The topics and conversations are great.

Not only do we have all of that for you, we also include an interview with Joe from Firmer Terra, the makers of The Alpha Gaming Table, as well as Dave Taylor about the current NOVA Open Charitable Foundation raffles going on!

Episode 164 of The Independent Characters is late. Super late in fact. Let us explain:

As you will hear in this episode we have an interview with Steel Wool - a video game company working on a great new game for Warhammer 40k. Unfortunately, we also talked a lot about this interview and its contents. Their announcement was subsequently delayed due to… reasons. As a result, we could not release the episode or even just remove the interview and release it on time, and in fact released it out of order (Episode 165 dropped a few days ago).

We apologize for the delay and we have learned our lesson to never again tie an episode to a PR Announcement of a release!

So with that out of the way, let’s talk about what this episode actually contains! First we have a fairly long and meandering Hobby Progress discussion which also weighs in on a few new announcements from GW and other thoughts and ideas about the community.

We then move into our (delayed) interview with Steel Wool about their new Betrayal at Calth video game! Trust us when we tell you that this thing is VERY cool. Listen to the interview and you will see why.

We then have an interview with returning guests Kat and Caleb of CK Studios. They have some amazing events coming up and we get some insight into what they have going on.

Last but certainly not least, we have a short discussion about our home campaign The Permutation of Arasys, which we have been playing through. We talk about the structure of the campaign, how it is going so far, and what our expectations are going forward.

Again we apologize for the delays in releasing the show, but we really hope you enjoy what we have for you.

Episode 165 of The Independent Characters is a super-sized, nearly four hour episode! The first thing you need to know though, is that this episode is being released in ADVANCE of Episode 164 as a result of a PR announcement tied to that episode which was delayed. This forced us to delay the release of 164, so we hurried up and released 165 as soon as we could. This episode is our Show of Force covering the Grey Knights!

(I know. It's confusing.)

To help us through this episode, we have brought on two guys who are incredibly passionate about the Grey Knights. Aaron (also known as Magneto) and Adan. I want to thank them very much for joining us on short notice so we could get this episode out to you guys and not make you wait even longer for Episode 164.

Our Show of Force episodes are some of our most positively reviewed content - but just when you think it cannot get any better we top it by bringing on Aaron Dembski-Bowden and Geoff Hummel to complete our Forbidden Lore segment on Black Legion. Aarons follow up to Talon of Horus! It's an hour long interview full of spoilers and fanboy gushing, but we think you will enjoy that!

Thank you for your patience as we have dealt with this fumble of timing. We hope you enjoy the show.

This episode is an extended "Warrior Lodge". The Warrior Lodge segments are a moderated discussion about topics which are relevant to the Warhammer universe and community in which we all participate.

To help us through this episode, we have three special guests who have joined us on previous episodes. Colin, Jody, and Josh join Carl to talk about topics which have been on our minds and possibly the minds of others throughout the community.

Then we launch into a special interview with Ross Watson. You may know the name from all of the work on the RPG Warhammer 40k games from Fantasy Flight Studios. Ross is working on a new Warahammer 40k RPG, called "Wrath and Glory" with a brand new publisher. We get a bit of the inside scoop on what is going on with this new game and what we can expect!

Back in Episodes 42 and 43 we ran two linked shows which explored each of the faction (on the surface) and sought to answer just that. At the time, the show notes were so long the hosts decided it would be better to break it up into two episodes. One which was an Imperial Edition, and the other which was a Xenos Edition.

Those are some great episodes, but that was all the way back in 5th edition and SO much has changed since then (and some things have stayed the same!) that we felt it was time to update this series.

We aim to provide you the definitive guide for looking at all your choices for Warhammer 40,000 armies and making the right one for you.

This is part two of these revised episodes, the Xenos and Chaos Edition.

On top of all of that great content, we have our Forbidden Lore Segment near the end of the show. This is an hour long discussion with Black Library Author John French about his latest book, Horusian Wars: Resurrection! I was lucky enough to be joined by Geoff Hummel, our original co-host for this great interview. WARNING: Spoilers abound in this episode though! If you are interested in reading this book - you may NOT want to listen to this interview until you have completed it.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 159 of The Independent Characters revisits the question “What army should I play?”. Strap in because this is a long episode with some great pieces!

We aim to provide you the definitive guide for looking at all your choices for Warhammer 40,000 armies and making the right one for you.

The first of these episodes, the Imperial Edition, is this one. But don't worry, we are going to follow up episode 159 with an updated version of the Xenos Edition in episode 160, by the end of the month.

Additionally, we have a couple of AMAZING interviews. The first is with Jes Bickham of the Warhammer 40k Design Studio! We ask him a bunch of questions around the development of the game and gain some insights into what the thinking was on many of the questions that have arisen since it’s release. THEN we talk to Dave Taylor, who tells us all about the NOVA Open Charitable Foundations efforts to raise money for those in need, and how you can get a chance to win some amazing prizes by helping out.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 157 of The Independent Characters provides you with our further impressions of The New Warhammer 40,000! (aka: 8th Edition)

Now that we have had time to play many, many games of The New Warhammer 40,000, we feel a little more qualified to give you our opinions on the game. Recently someone stated on our Facebook page that it seems as though all we do is talk about how much we love Games Workshop. Well if you are that person, and that bothers you, you may want to skip this episode.

Once we go through the regular Hobby Progress and Games Played sections, we get down to our continuing discussion of the game, the changes, and what we think it all means. Then, in keeping with the show spirit of making you feel like a part of our gaming group, we pull in four other players from our group and have some discussion with them about their opinions and thoughts on the game. All in all it makes for some pretty interesting and entertaining discussion.

Then, just when you think it's over, we have an interview with painter, artist, renaissance man, Caleb Wissenback. Caleb has just passed over to Carl the Chaos Reaver Titan he was commissioned to paint, and the results are incredible! So incredible, we brought Caleb on to share how the whole process worked.

We also have some discussion about kicking Adan off the show. You will have to listen to find out why.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 156 of The Independent Characters continues to explore our early impressions of The New Warhammer 40,000, but the main focus of the show is about how to bring new players into the game.

With the release of the new edition, the time couldn't be more perfect for people to join the community. The game is easier to learn than ever, but contains enough depth that older players are returning in droves. After a fairly long hobby progress section, we go over some thoughts and ideas on what you can do to help ease people into playing Warhammer 40,000 and not scare them off!

We hope you enjoy the show.

Episode 154 of the Independent Characters is all about Shadow Wars: Armageddon! Ok well maybe not ENTIRELY about SW:A, we have a bunch of 8th edition discussion in here as well as a couple of great interviews!

Our first interview, is with the Terrafirmer! They have a brilliant gaming table product that you are going to want to hear about and see (See show notes links below!)

We then launch into a discussion about Shadow Wars: Armageddon. A tremendous offering from Games Workshop, where the initial run of boxes and rule books sold out too fast! We go into the background the game is based on, some of its historical relation to Necromunda, and then talk about the rules and campaign system a bit.

We then launch into an interview with Matei Lungu (Or Matt as he is known!) about the Warhammer 40k scene in Bucharest, Romania. This is hopefully the first in an ongoing segment titled Warhammer 40k: Around the World, in which we talk to different people from around the world and compare similarities and differences to their gaming scene.

As a side note, Carl has been sidelined with some family issues and so we recognize some of the links didn’t make it into the show notes that should be there. We will add those in the next day or so on the Facebook page. We hope you enjoy!

Episode 150 of The Independent Characters is all about dealing with change in the hobby.

With 8th edition Warhammer 40,000 right around the corner we are sure to see some people get upset about many of the changes. We talk about some good ideas for how to deal with the upcoming upheaval. We start by taking a look back through changes we saw from 5th to 6th and 7th edition and try to put some perspective around how some changes, that were thought to be catastrophic to the game at the time, really panned out.

Building upon this perspective, we talk a bit about good strategies for dealing with change from the point of view of those who deal with this kind of thing on a regular basis. Then we launch into a discussion about what changes we might see ported over from Age of Sigmar into Warhammer 40,000 with this new edition.

Before we jump into that though, we start off with an interview with Kat and Caleb of CK Studios. We have a discussion about what our expectations are and what the class is going to cover, and then immediately follow that up with our Hobby Progress section which takes place immediately AFTER completing the class. Episode 145 of The Independent Characters takes a close look at conflicts within gaming groups. This isn’t a show about how to deal with ‘that guy’ at a tournament, but an episode we hope helps address problems in groups that have long standing relationships.

We have all witnessed poor behavior while gaming. However, when it is friends or communities impacted by this type of behavior when do you say something? And more importantly what do you say? Hopefully this episode shines some light on a complex and difficult topic.

We are lucky enough to get Jason Mullins from the Sons of Heresy Podcast onboard to talk with us about the main topic of the show as well! Make sure you check out his new show.

We also have two quick interviews. The first with Caleb and Kat of CK Studios. We talk about the upcoming airbrushing class they are doing in the Bay Area and all about their studio and outlook on painting and the hobby. This is followed up by an interview with Adam ‘Loopy’ Fasoldt from the Masters of The Forge Podcast. We go into the results of The Independent Characters 2016 Hobby Progress Challenge, which he has been kind enough to spearhead for us over the last two years.

There is a slight sound issue towards the end of the Hobby Progress segment. We think we might have an issue with our soundboard and are going to replace it. Fortunately it doesn’t impact the rest of the show and isn’t too terrible. Please bear with us. We hope you enjoy the show!

To help us uncover the secrets of this awesome army, we have brought none other than Brian Harvey (evilspaceelves) of the Splintermind Podcast into the studio. We also give him a chance to unburden himself with his hobby progress.

One note: the final thirty minutes of the show has some audio interference that appears to be either from a bad mic cable or a failing sound board. Unfortunately there was nothing we could do to get rid of it. Hopefully it isn’t to distracting as the content is really quite good.

We also have an interview with the owners of Tablewar! Doug and Todd join us to talk about their newest Kickstarter - The Macromats! In addition to that we have two great interviews! One with Dave Taylor about the Nova Open Charitable Foundation and the incredible raffles they are running this year for a great cause. But please don't join them because Carl is trying to win and has already bought his tickets!

Next up is an interview with Jason about the Wargasm 40k event in Calgary! This sounds like a great event if you are in the area and looking for some incredible Warhammer 40k to attend.

We hope you enjoy the show!

Episode 137 of The Independent Characters takes us back to some basics. And by that we mean basic tactics.

After a lengthy Workbench and Games Played discussion, we get into a two part segment on Basic Tactics with Jody and Jason. This covers each phase of the Warhammer 40k game as it is played on the tabletop.

After that, we figured we would kick off an ongoing segment on Basic Tactics about each army. We of course, start with the Space Marines.

For more advanced players of Warhammer 40k, some of this information may be redundant. But we have found that going back to the beginning, sometimes reminds you of insights you may have overlooked. Either way, we hope you enjoy the show!

Don't forget to listen to the end after the credits to learn about our new contest!

Many gamers feel like they have always had that novel inside of them, if they could just get the time to write it all down...

Episode 136 focuses on what it takes for your submissions to Black Library to get noticed. Who knows, maybe you could be the next great Black Library author! To help us out with this we have brought in three experts:

Guy Haley is probably one of the most prolific authors in Black Library to date. He writes more short stories and novels than just about any other author today. He also provides us a wealth of information on what the "Do's and Dont's" are when submitting material or pitching ideas, from an experienced writers perspective.

We also speak with Justin Hill, one of the newer authors for Black Library (but by no means a new author!) about his experience in getting his foot in the door to write Warhammer 40k fiction.

And finally we speak to the legend himself, Nick Kyme. Not only an author for Black Library, but first and foremost, one of the editors behind the portal that Ahriman himself searches for! As an editor, he and his peers are the literal gatekeepers to what does and does not get published by Black Library. He provides a wealth of information about what should go into your pitch for a story, and more importantly what should NOT go into it!
