Episode 145 of The Independent Characters takes a close look at conflicts within gaming groups. This isn’t a show about how to deal with ‘that guy’ at a tournament, but an episode we hope helps address problems in groups that have long standing relationships. We have all witnessed poor behavior while gaming. However, when it is friends or communities impacted by this type of behavior when do you say something? And more importantly what do you say? Hopefully this episode shines some light on a complex and difficult topic. We are lucky enough to get Jason Mullins from the Sons of Heresy Podcast onboard to talk with us about the main topic of the show as well! Make sure you check out his new show. We also have two quick interviews. The first with Caleb and Kat of CK Studios. We talk about the upcoming airbrushing class they are doing in the Bay Area and all about their studio and outlook on painting and the hobby. This is followed up by an interview with Adam ‘Loopy’ Fasoldt from the Masters of The Forge Podcast. We go into the results of The Independent Characters 2016 Hobby Progress Challenge, which he has been kind enough to spearhead for us over the last two years. There is a slight sound issue towards the end of the Hobby Progress segment. We think we might have an issue with our soundboard and are going to replace it. Episode 144 of The Independent Characters addresses the topic of the many various ways you can now play Warhammer 40k. We have Justin and Adan back in the studio to record with us this session. As we go through each way to play we discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each and talk about our own personal preferences. Of course we have our usual hobby progress and games played, but we also include a very short interview with Doug and Todd of Tablewar who have a short announcement at the beginning of the episode. Episode 143 of The Independent Characters brings us back to the Show of Force format. This time it’s Show of Force: The Dark Kin of Commorragh. To help us uncover the secrets of this awesome army, we have brought none other than Brian Harvey (evilspaceelves) of the Splintermind Podcast into the studio. We also give him a chance to unburden himself with his hobby progress. One note: the final thirty minutes of the show has some audio interference that appears to be either from a bad mic cable or a failing sound board. Unfortunately there was nothing we could do to get rid of it. Hopefully it isn’t to distracting as the content is really quite good. We also have an interview with the owners of Tablewar! Doug and Todd join us to talk about their newest Kickstarter - The Macromats! If you are posting pictures of your miniatures online, you NEED this product! Episode 141 of The Independent Characters addresses the thirteen black crusades of Abaddon! For years people have maligned the leader of Chaos as a failure. We are here to tell you that is not the case. This episode, in honor of the release of Traitors Hate, we take a close look at the 12 previous Black Crusades led by the chosen of Chaos and then take a deep long look at the 13th Black Crusade. We apologize (again!) for the delays in getting the show out, but Carl was in the hospital for dehydration as a result of the stomach flu. We are back though. Episode 140 of The Independent Characters continues our Show of Force series. This time it is the Adeptus Mechanicus and Skitarii forces that we cover in depth! To assist Carl, we have brought on two members of our gaming group that play the AdMech and Skitarii forces. Michael and Colin are both very strong painters and players. Episode 138 of The Independent Characters is a long one... that we end up cutting short due to Carl losing his voice. The primary subject of this episode is our long awaited coverage of Forge Worlds Horus Heresy Book 6: Retribution. This is part one of our two part coverage of this incredible book. In this part of our coverage we discuss much of the background of the book as well as a general overview of what is contained within. In addition to that we have two great interviews! One with Dave Taylor about the Nova Open Charitable Foundation and the incredible raffles they are running this year for a great cause. Episode 137 of The Independent Characters takes us back to some basics. And by that we mean basic tactics. After a lengthy Workbench and Games Played discussion, we get into a two part segment on Basic Tactics with Jody and Jason. This covers each phase of the Warhammer 40k game as it is played on the tabletop. After that, we figured we would kick off an ongoing segment on Basic Tactics about each army. We of course, start with the Space Marines. For more advanced players of Warhammer 40k, some of this information may be redundant. But we have found that going back to the beginning, sometimes reminds you of insights you may have overlooked. Either way, we hope you enjoy the show! Many gamers feel like they have always had that novel inside of them, if they could just get the time to write it all down... Episode 136 focuses on what it takes for your submissions to Black Library to get noticed. Who knows, maybe you could be the next great Black Library author! To help us out with this we have brought in three experts: Guy Haley is probably one of the most prolific authors in Black Library to date. He writes more short stories and novels than just about any other author today. He also provides us a wealth of information on what the "Do's and Dont's" are when submitting material or pitching ideas, from an experienced writers perspective. We also speak with Justin Hill, one of the newer authors for Black Library (but by no means a new author!) about his experience in getting his foot in the door to write Warhammer 40k fiction. And finally we speak to the legend himself, Nick Kyme. Not only an author for Black Library, but first and foremost, one of the editors behind the portal that Ahriman himself searches for! As an editor, he and his peers are the literal gatekeepers to what does and does not get published by Black Library. He provides a wealth of information about what should go into your pitch for a story, and more importantly what should NOT go into it!
