Many gamers feel like they have always had that novel inside of them, if they could just get the time to write it all down...

Episode 136 focuses on what it takes for your submissions to Black Library to get noticed. Who knows, maybe you could be the next great Black Library author! To help us out with this we have brought in three experts:

Guy Haley is probably one of the most prolific authors in Black Library to date. He writes more short stories and novels than just about any other author today. He also provides us a wealth of information on what the "Do's and Dont's" are when submitting material or pitching ideas, from an experienced writers perspective.

We also speak with Justin Hill, one of the newer authors for Black Library (but by no means a new author!) about his experience in getting his foot in the door to write Warhammer 40k fiction.

And finally we speak to the legend himself, Nick Kyme. Not only an author for Black Library, but first and foremost, one of the editors behind the portal that Ahriman himself searches for! As an editor, he and his peers are the literal gatekeepers to what does and does not get published by Black Library. He provides a wealth of information about what should go into your pitch for a story, and more importantly what should NOT go into it!

Episode 135 of The Independent Characters is packed to the brim with great content!

After the usual Workbench and Games Played segment we launch into a discussion on Speed Painting. Justin and Jody talk about tips and techniques for getting your army on the table quickly. Then, to reinforce that point, we have an interview with Dave of Dave Paints. He is the commission painter that painted the infamous (because they are MORE than famous!) Chelledar to such a great standard.

You might think that's enough for an entire show. And other shows might only deliver that - but then we have an interview with the legendary Gav Thorpe about his recent novels and the upcoming Angels of Caliban Horus Heresy novel!

And just when you are thinking 'This couldn't possibly get any better.' There's more! Carl and Doug spend some time addressing the topic of prepping and assembling Forge World models. We hit this topic again and try to dispell many of the myths around it. Sandbeds are NOT required! We promise.

It has been a fun episode to produce and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it!

The hobby progress section is flowing with all hosts contributing quite a bit of work this last few weeks. This section also contains a lot of good tips and tricks on how you can get more out of your hobby time.

Adan and Carl then discuss their recent trip to the UK where they were fortunate enough to attend games at the HATE club, The Overlords, Salute and ultimately Warhammer World!

Finally we wrap up the episode with a discussion between Justin and Jason in our continuing series about playing styles. This time we are talking tournament style play.

It's an especially long episode to make up for the missing one in mid-April, but we think you will enjoy the discussion.

Episode 131 of The Independent Characters returns with two great topics!

After a large hobby progress and games played update we introduce our two guest hosts for our new segments. Doug (aka Replacement Geoff) is joined by Justin to discuss playing "Garage Style" games. What's the difference between this method and others? What are some of the advantages and disadvantages?

Then we get in the Boiler Room with Jason and talk about Basic Hobby Tools. The topic only sounds dry on paper though - as we go into where you can get these kinds of tools and what things to look out for.

We are hoping to put out one more episode before our upcoming trip to the UK for Salute and Warhammer World, but it may not happen. Either way we will keep you aware of what is going on through our Facebook page and website. We hope you enjoy!

Episode 130 - Paint Choices and Oil Washes

Episode 130 of The Independent Characters continues our return to the Podcast by covering two topics that we find interesting.

First we discuss the process and benefits of doing oil washes. We get Josh on to explain how they are done, why they are done, and what the benefits of doing them are.

Next up is a discussion between Justin and Jody all about the various types of paints avaiable to hobbiests. What the benefits and drawbacks of each type are, and under what circumstances do you want to use one over another! This is typically a hotly debated topic amongst people in our hobby, so while our opinions may or may not line up with yours, we felt it was worth taking the time to discuss.

Of course we have Adan and Justin joining us for the Hobby Progress and Games played segments. So hopefully you enjoy what we have been up to.

We hope you enjoy the show and don't feel like you are listening to paint dry!

Episode 129 of The Independent Characters marks our return to the microphone after a six month hiatus with Carl, Adan, and Justin. Carl was apparently the only one that wasn't aware we were returning. You will hear all about the reasons for the return and how we have changed our format slightly to ensure quality family and gaming time!

After a massive hobby progress and games played update we introduce two new guest hosts for our new segments. Doug (aka Replacement Geoff) is joined by Zach (no not THAT Zach - A NEW one!) to review Fantasy Flight Games Forbidden Stars as well as talk about Faultline 40k, a new gaming club in the Bay Area that emphasizes painting, playing and the narrative approach to gaming.

We take some time to talk about what the plans are for Faultline 40k, where they are heading and how you can get involved if you are local to the scene here. Even if you aren't a local to the Bay Area, you may find the discussion inspirational and packed with some good advice.

We are happy to be back in the saddle. In some ways it feels like we never left. Thanks for all of your continued support while we were on break! It's because of the supportive comments from our awesome community that we have returned. (at least in part). Also thank you to Doug and Zach for helping out with this episode. We hope you enjoy!

It's 2016 and we felt like we just wanted to talk with all of you again, so Adan and Carl sit down to just chat a little bit. No specific topics other than what has been going on and what is coming up for us in the near future (Hint LVO, Salute and Nottingham!).

It's been a while, but we hope you enjoy.

Normally we wouldn't release an episode this long, but this massive 5+ hour episode is bittersweet for us here as it is indeed the final episode of The Independent Characters. We want to thank every single one of you for listening to us over the last few years. It has been an incredible journey and we have enjoyed it tremendously.

127 may be a bit self indulgent as we check in with many of the guests that we have had on the show and find out where they are heading. We tried not to be too repetitive, but some of it cannot be helped when you conduct as many interviews as we have here.

We also add a few segments for our final episode that we hope you enjoy. Thank you once again for listening, providing feedback, and generally being the best friends we could have ever asked for. Good gaming!

I would also like to just take a moment to thank all of our sponsors over the years. KR Multicase, Secret Weapon Miniatures, Smells like Wargaming, and Wargamma. We made a promise not to advertise products that we wouldn't use ourselves - and these guys provide some of the best on the market. Please do go check them out and at least give them a look, as the show would not have been possible without their support.

Farewell!
